South Carolina is home in the southeastern part of the US sharing borders with Georgia, South Carolina, and the Atlantic Ocean. The state has four distinct areas, which include the Coastal Plain, Sandhills, Piedmont, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Due to the diverse terrain, there is a wide array of beautiful scenic views throughout the state. Temperatures range in summer from 86 to 93 degrees Fahrenheit and in the winter months 40 to 60 degrees. South Carolina is home to quite a few lakes that provide family fun including Lake Jocassee, Lake Wateree, Lake Murray, Lake Strom Thurmond, and Lake Marion, to name a few.
There are all kinds of fun things to do around South Carolina such as strolling Charleston and all the historic architecture as well as lighthouses and museums, Heritage Corridor Region 3 Discovery Center in Blackville, Myrtle Beach, New Charlestown Lighthouse, Wild Water - Water & Race Theme Park in Surfside Beach, Dupont Planetarium in Aiken, and Fort Sumter National Monument. Other great attractions your family will enjoy while not on the beach include Abbeville Opera House in Abbeville, Hopeland Gardens and Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame & Museum in Aiken, Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County in Camden, and Old Slave Market in Charleston.
