South Dakota

South Dakota is home in the Midwestern section of the US sharing borders with Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, and North Dakota. South Dakota is mainly flat and is part of the Great Plains region. The state is divided into regions including the Black Hills, western South Dakota, and eastern South Dakota. The Black Hills area almost looks like you are entering a totally different state due to the change in terrain with rolling hills and buttes.

The Black Hills are a small group of mountains with Mount Rushmore being the most famous of them all. However, many tourists enjoy other locations in this same area of the state including Custer State Park, Badlands National Park, Wind Cave National Park, Deadwood, and Crazy Horse Memorial. Of course, this is just a taste of the favorite spots. South Dakota has a wide array of outdoor activities that will keep the family happy and busy the entire time you are visiting. The state offers activities such as hunting, ATV riding, hiking, skiing, bicycling, horseback riding, snowboarding, birding, snowmobiling, boating, kayaking, canoeing, motorcycling, wildlife viewing, mountain biking, hot air balloons, fishing, helicopter tours, geocaching, golfing, and rock climbing.
